2006 Equine Honoree Jim Jirkovsky

Having trained over 200 World and National Champion horses including numerous "Appaloosa Horse of the World Champions" with wife Sandy, the Nebraska Horse Council is proud to honor Jim Jirkovsky as a 2006 recipient of the Equine Honoree Award.

Jim excels in roping, working cow horse, western riding, trail, and reining events. He personally starts all of the two year olds. His quiet demeanor and patience in training give the young horses a great foundation for becoming all-around champions. The phrase "cowboy up" had to be written with him in mind. Jim's favorite quote is from John Wayne," Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway!"

Jim and his wife Sandy, together with teamwork and talent own and operate the J Bar S Training located near Kearney, Nebraska just off I-80. A heated barn and a large indoor arena allow for year-round training. Both are carded judges with the Appaloosa Horse Club and American Paint Horse Association. They have judged in six different countries and are grateful for the wonderful friendships they have made throughout the world. They have judged major shows such as the APHA World Championships, the National Appaloosa Show, Cowboy Classic, Houston Livestock Show, and Tall Timber Circuit, in all a total of 67 shows. Jim has been an accredited judge since 1991.

2006 Equine Honoree Tammy Vasa

In February of 2004 horsetrailriders.com was created. This virtual horse riding club has given Nebraskans and equine enthusiasts from all over the United States a common place to read and share stories and information of trail experiences, being a horse owner or just anything equine related.

Tammy's passion for horses and her ability to create a Nebraska equine networking resource that has had over 47,000 hits since its creation in 2004 is a prime example of her commitment to the Nebraska horse industry.

Tammy is the co-founder of the Platte River Riders of Nebraska and is also currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Nebraska Horse Trails Committee, a sub committee of the Nebraska Horse Council. Tammy has been very instrumental in the creation and promotion of Trail Time, the NHTC newest riding and driving program.

Tammy, her husband John and two sons, McCain and Case, reside in rural Saunders County near Weston, Nebraska with their "mixed" herd of seven head....Quarter Horses, Paints, and grades and even a draft. Tammy enjoys her time trail riding and camping with friends, maintaining horsetrailriders.com and taking an occasional equine game day.

It is the honor of the Nebraska Horse Council to recognize Tammy as a 2006 recipient of the Equine Honoree Award.
